Short answer: no. Instead of mapping each product to a Whop plan, a gateway can create one one-time plan per order, priced at the WooCommerce total. You manage one Whop product, and coupons, tax, shipping and variations keep working because WooCommerce still does the maths.
Why plan-ID mapping is popular
Whop is organised around products and plans. The obvious way to connect a store is to create a matching Whop plan for each WooCommerce product and send customers to it. For a single digital product that works fine.
Where it breaks
- Carts with more than one item. A plan is a single price, and a cart is a sum.
- Coupons and sales. Every discount needs its own plan, or the customer pays full price.
- Tax and shipping. These depend on the customer’s address, so they can’t be fixed in advance.
- Variations. Size, colour and tier each need their own plan, and the mapping has to be kept in sync by hand.
- Price changes. Change a price in WooCommerce and forget Whop, and customers are charged the old price.
The alternative: one plan per order
With per-order plans, the gateway waits until WooCommerce has calculated the final total, then asks Whop for a one-time plan at exactly that amount and sends the customer to pay it. Whop only ever sees one amount plus the metadata needed to match the payment back to the order.
| Plan-ID mapping | Per-order plans | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | One plan per product or variation | One Whop product in total |
| Coupons, tax, shipping | Not reflected | Always exact |
| Price changes | Update both systems | Update WooCommerce only |
| Reconciliation | Several orders can share a plan | One plan per order, so no ambiguity |
A side benefit: cleaner reconciliation
Because every order has its own plan, matching a Whop payment to a WooCommerce order has only one possible answer. That’s what lets WhopWoo’s background job safely complete orders whose webhook was lost.
